What kind of storyteller were you before you learned the rules of capitalism? Sometimes, in order to move forward, we have to return to the foundations. This 6-week container, informed by Venus’ retrograde, offers an oasis of restoration for creatives who are burned to a crisp. Here, we divest from production and invest in creative inputs and community to fill our empty cups to overflowing. REGISTRATION ENDS JULY 21
You keep hustling and hustling and it doesn't seem to make any difference at all.

You want to finish the script or get the deal or finish the stack of editing side hustles so that you can get back to your own creative projects and, like, mood.

But the burnout is profound.

Is working harder really the solution to soul thirst?

What is really underneath the bone-deep frustration with how your process has changed?
The desire to feel capable?
Recognized?
Confident?
Respected?
To know that the years you've worked have meant something?

Valid.

But is productivity the only way that Creating feels worth it?

When was the last time you felt that childlike spark of excitement about your art, divorced from the adult expectation of deadlines and money?

Sometimes, in order to move forward, we have to return to the foundations.

What is it about Creating you fell in love with in the first place?

(Do you even remember?)

It's time for a reset.

Why Venus?

Mythologically, Venus is the patron of artists, of creation, of beauty, of aesthetic.

While Mercury rules writing (and also commerce), I think it is vital to also remember that Venus is into art for art's sake. Pleasure for pleasure's sake.

The Venusian, in (for lack of a better word) white, Protestant, Western culture is profoundly undervalued, and not only undervalued, but condemned as sinful.

So, when Venus stations retrograde — which she does every 18 months or so — it is an opportunity to reflect on the pleasures, care, and simple, decidedly non-monetarily productive creations and resources we have neglected or denied ourselves.

FAQ

Do I have to participate in everything?

No!

This container is built to be precisely that: a container. A cloister. A place for rest. You get to tap in and out at your leisure, doing only what you want to do.

I’ve endeavored to offer options for different kinds of folks — if you like live conversation, there is a weekly office hours/Q&A. If you live online or love chatting with folks, there’s a Discord. If you’ve been wanting a summer book club, we’re doing one! If you just want to listen to messages and read poetry and set up a Venus altar in the comfort of your own home, you don’t have to talk to anyone the entire time.

The point is for this to be a space for recovery, while acknowledging that recovery doesn’t happen right away.

Do I have to know a lot about/be super "into" astrology to do this?

No!

While this container is informed by astrology (obviously — we are doing this during Venus Rx!), it’s not about astrology, in that the point is not learning about astrology, but rather about our own relationships to our creativity.

For the astro inclined, there are sections of the container that will feature astrology, to supplement your creative recovery.

But the vast majority of this container requires absolutely zero astrological knowledge — it is more based on the mythology of Venus and especially that of her own ancestor, Inanna of the Sumerians, and what those powerful, millennia-old stories can show us about rediscovering ourselves.

The Fine Print: Money

If your heart says YES to this immediately, you can sign up for the container during pre-sale a reduced rate between June 30-July 7. After that, the price goes up to $888, with a 3-part payment plan.

Once the container has begun on July 22, or once you are in the Discord (which will open later in July), there are no refunds.

Please see my FAQ for more detail on how I handle payment plans, e.g. for when payments bounce.

The Fine Print: Community Care

I have an absolute zero tolerance for bigotry of all kinds in the discord, and in the live office hours on Zoom, which will result in immediate removal from the course with no refund and an auto-ban on all of my future offerings.

You should also know that I have absolutely zero tolerance for COVID denialism, anti-vaxxers, and the “it’s 2023, COVID is over” folks. My partner is immunocompromised. One of our best friends was one of the first Long COVID cases diagnosed here in New York City. Another dear friend has been at the vanguard of COVID and Monkeypox activism for our queer community, also here in NYC. My own creative life has been enormously impacted by COVID — most especially getting to see the impact of the Omicron surge on our healthcare system and providers up close and personal during my extended hospitalization (for non-COVID reasons) in late 2021/early 2022. I will absolutely not indulge any so-called “debate” on a pandemic which is still claiming lives simply because some folks find masks “uncomfortable.”

I say all of this because, in a cloister where we are focusing on creative rest and recovery and re-examining the "before" and "after," the things that have brought us to the brink are bound to come up. And the pandemic is, however directly or indirectly, one of those things.
